Scarecrows, Corn, A Harvest Book

This week, we are going to make a harvest book. The cover is a scarecrow. The overalls and pockets were cut from worn blue jeans. The other elements were cut from paper scraps. You could say he was a recycled art project.

The content of the book included infornation that we gleaned off of the Iowa corn growers site- http://www.iowacorn.org/. We also made a scarecrow glyph. If anyone would like me to post the glyph that I made , please comment. We wrote stories about,"the scarecrow who couldn't scare." Crows were made from black sticky back felt and handprints. These pictures included facts about the American crow. Each child was given a postcard of Iowa to make into a poster.
Since, we live in Iowa, it was appropriate to add art appreciation in the form of "American Gothic" by Grant Wood. The students drew their own interpretation of this famous painting.
